As a teacher I tell people the number one gift I enjoyed was a heartfelt letter or note from a parent or student. I have a box where I kept every single letter or craft I ever got and from time to time I will get lost in it, thinking about those precious students and their families. Every school setting is different, and where I taught the parents didn’t necessarily have an abundance of extra resources and so please hear me when I say if this is you this year, or every year, nothing can be more meaningful than a note of thanks.
That said, I’ve got a few ideas for things that I would’ve loved when I was teaching!
First up, gift cards. And I know there is often concern that gift cards are impersonal, but they are indeed appreciated. I like to give Amazon, UberEats, and grocery stores!
Some other ideas are also ways to support local businesses. Give gift cards to a favorite local restaurant, or even a membership to the nearest botanical gardens, zoo, or art museum.
Below are a few ideas for other gifts a teacher might enjoy. For instance I know I always appreciated having an emergency umbrella to keep in my classroom, especially one as cute as this Kate Spade one. And a pencil case for all of my grading pens like this Barrington Gifts one would be perfect to fill with expo makers or colorful felt tips. The speaker is fun for a teacher who might light to have some music in the classroom and a personalized pencil cup would be cute with a little gift card stashed inside.
