Last year when I shared my favorite size-inclusive swimwear, I had multiple people reach out letting me know how helpful it was. So, I thought it would be a good idea to write an updated version. The great news is that many of the swimsuits and coverups in last year’s post are still available, (so be sure to check those out here). Plus, there are some great new options this summer. So without further ado, let’s dive in!
Finding the Right Swimwear
I know how tricky it can be to find a swimsuit that makes you feel comfortable and confident. It can be overwhelming and downright discouraging at times. But, as I always say, “All bodies are bathing suit bodies!” And there really are so many great size-inclusive options out there! As a Florida girl, I have spent many hours in a dressing room and in my own home trying on swimsuits. Over time, I’ve come to learn what does and doesn’t work for me. Last year I shared these tips for finding great size-inclusive swimwear. All of these still ring true today, so I wanted to reshare them once again!
- If you find a swimsuit style that you feel comfortable and confident in, don’t be scared to buy it in multiple colors and prints. I have done this many times and I’m always so thankful for it!
- Always pack a long-sleeve UPF swim shirt in your bag. I do this for a few different reasons. First, sun protection is the number one concern for me. So while I have tons of one-pieces without sleeves, I’m always sure to have a long-sleeve swim shirt to throw on when I’m in full sun. Second, personally, I’ve found that swim shirts and long sleeve swim options are actually cooler and more comfortable in the heat. So, I lean towards them on extra hot days.
- Did you know you can wear a bra underneath long sleeve swimsuits that don’t have built-in support? There are brands that have official “aqua lingerie” that I hope to try at some point, but I have regular bras that I reserve just for swimming. If you’re not as busty, you may be able to find a bikini top you could use under the suits instead. But if you’re fuller up top as I am, then you know finding a bikini top that works is a process in and of itself!
- When purchasing size-inclusive swimwear online, I recommend making peace with the strategy of buying multiple sizes, colors, and styles (when possible) and returning the ones that don’t work. I always find it’s best to have lots of options to try on. This gives me a better chance of finding one that I love, rather than ending up without any suit at all.
2024 Size-Inclusive Swimwear Favorites
Now let’s chat about some of my current favorites. While many of these swimsuits and coverups are pieces that I’ve owned for years, there are a few new ones worth mentioning (including a Target find!) As I mentioned above, if I find a suit that I love, I tend to buy it again down the road in a new color way. So you’ll see some of that today as well. I’ve found all of these pieces to be of excellent quality and fit, making them my top recommendations.
1. Long Sleeve Swimsuits
There are a few reasons why I love a long sleeve rash guard swimsuit. First of all, the sleeves provide extra sun protection. This one is even made with a UPF 50+ fabric. It’s so nice to have one less area to stress about applying sunscreen on. I also find long sleeves to be very comfortable and flattering. I know some women don’t love wearing anything sleeveless, so I appreciate that there are such cute long sleeve options. And lastly, I find the zippers on these swimsuits to be such a chic touch!
2. Classic One Piece Swimsuits
When all else fails, you can always count on the classics! Some of my most-worn swimsuits are simple one-piece styles in solid colors. And simple doesn’t mean boring! Little details like a square neck, scrunch fabric, and a sporty fit give these suits character, while still being timeless. Plus, with a classic swimsuit, you can always add a fun sarong to spice it up a bit!
3. A Cute Target Find
How fun is this Target swimsuit!? I love the happy yellow color and the unique u-wire detail. Plus, the quality is great, especially for the price! It pairs perfectly with this reversible sarong.
4. Classics…With a Twist
If you’re looking for a swimsuit with a fun twist that is still a classic style, this bow one-shoulder swimsuit and this wrap swimsuit are two of my favorites. I’ve had both of these for years, and I still love them just as much today as I did on day one. The shape and fit of each is wonderful, making them comfortable and flattering. There are tons of color options, and they go up to size 22. I also love the regular one-shoulder swimsuit (without the bow) from this same brand, which goes up to a size 24.
5. A Reliable Rash Guard
As I mentioned in my swimsuit tips above, I am a big advocate for rash guards. They’re comfortable and provide an extra layer of sun protection. This UPF 50+ swim tee is my favorite! I own in it multiple colors and prints. And the price is exceptional, especially for the quality! It’s available in a variety of sizes including standard, petite, plus, long, and long plus.
