During my time growing up in Florida, and even over 13 years I spent living in Dallas, early Fall style for me has been defined by wishing for the cold snap, but sweating my way through most of September and October. Despite the warmer weather, I like dipping my toe in fall styles by playing with colors and textures, and Tuckernuck is the perfect place to shop to ease into seasonal dressing. I might not be in sweaters for a while, though I will need them for fall travel, but for my day-to-day, here is what I look for:
- Colors – Whether a cotton dress, or lightweight tunic, I look for autumnal tones like olive, tan, navy, mustard, and cognac to get in the spirit. Even crisp white shirts, chambray hues, and pinstripe blue and oxfords bring up images of preppy university style, which is perfect for that fall feeling.
- Textures – Sometimes I punctuate my look with tweed, boucle or tortoise accessories. Even headbands and barrettes can do the trick. I try to add leather or corduroy in small doses. I might not wear a tweed blazer for a while, but I’d wear a short sleeve tweed shift dress like this one, or a tweed headband like this one can be just the right touch.
- Shoes – I’d be in sandals year-round if I could, which must be the Florida in me! But in the fall months I wear more loafers (I’m at two years and counting with these), or at the very least sandals in warmer tones (like these) that work with a more seasonal color palette.
- Bags – Besides hair accessories, I try to convey a fall look through my purses. I can lean into the season with rich leathers, and traditional textiles
Below I am linking some of my favorite styles from Tuckernuck that are offered in up to an XXXL, which fits extended sizes of to an approximate 18, though some styles may be more flexible and fit up to a 20. I’ve worn Tuckernuck for years and always appreciate their take on classic style and their commitment to continuously adding size inclusive options to their site and brand. I wear between an XXL and XXXL, depending on the style. As a rule of thumb, I order up for anything that is button down, or for anything that looks like it could be on the shorter side as I am a tall 5’8″ and am a bit leggy. And I’d rather it be oversized and something I can tailor if need be. But as long as I can wear my trusty bike shorts underneath, I’m never worried about a “Marilyn moment” in these dresses which as a mom of young children, can happen at any turn! Headband | Earrings | Sunglasses | Dress | Shoes
Notes: This style seems to run large. You may want to consider ordering down a size.
Earrings | Dress | Bracelet (similar)
Note: This style seems to run large. You may want to consider ordering down a size. I wore this nude slip underneath. It is a cozy, fall feel without making me break out in a sweat!
Earrings | Dress | Sunglasses
Note: This dress is incredibly lightweight and easy breezy, but the olive green vines amongst the floral help bring it in to fall. The sleeves are so comfortable and I love slipping this on with some slides or tennis shoes.
Earrings | Scarf (similar) | Dress | Champagne Coupe (similar) | Panels (similar)
Note: This dress does not need a slip as it is lined (and has pockets). Consider ordering up a size for extra room in the bust.
Earrings | Sunglasses | Sweater | Pants
Note: This sweater is cotton and adjustable on the size with working buttons. The pants are a size zip, flat front style and are intended to be slightly flared crops.
Note: The sleeves on this shirt are 3/4 and the buttons are working buttons. The fabric is polyester and is incredibly easy to care for. The ruffle collar and sleeves are my favorite detail.
