Growing up in the Sunshine State, my parents were always mindful of our sun protection and reinforced the importance of hats, sunscreen, and time in the shade. Swim shirts and rash guards weren’t quite the mainstay they are now and I only ever recall seeing them on surfers and the very occasional child. Nowadays full coverage swim gear is certainly our default and is for most kids I see. We have “regular” bathing suits for indoor pools and evening swims, but rashguards are the way to go in the Hamlin household for all of us. From long sleeve shirts to wide brimmed hats, here are some of our sun protection favorites in honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month.
This is a selection of our tried and true sun protection favorites. This sunscreen is our new go-to after Catherine was breaking out from so many others. The iPlay and Beaufort Bonnet hats stay on their heads, the Prodoh UPF protective shifts are perfect for pool, beach, and play of all kinds. the Lilly Luxletic shirts are great for any time I need to be outside and their sunguards are great in the water, along with the Cabana Life rash guards. Curtis wears the Southern Tide performance long sleeve shirts in the ocean and pool and the PFG shirts are a great way to stay cool and covered – and I steal them frequently! Last but not least, don’t forget your eyes!
We get stopped literally every time the girls wear their Rufflebutts swimsuits by people wanting to know where to get them. The baby version goes up to 3T and snaps to provide easy access for diaper changes. They hold up so well to wear and tear around the beach and pool and are excellent – and darling – sun protection.
Cabana Life is a sun protection staple around our Florida parts. Catherine still wears this cute blue and pink hooded cover up and it is a 12-18 months – so I’d say they’re generously sized and you’ll get a lot of wear out of them! I am so looking forward to this cute striped cover up arriving after winning a giveaway! And this rashguard will certainly be a staple for the summer and all of our added time outside. In honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month use code May20 to get $20 off your purchase of $100 or more through May 10th.
These three cuties are all from Baby Gap. Unlike the selection below, they only go up to a size 18-24 months, but they sure are sweet! Currently they’re on sale for 50% off making them under $20!
These Gap options are also on sale and especially the ones without a rashguard can be mixed and matched with other rashguards. Or get plain options from Amazon (like this one) to cover up cute two pieces and provide sun protection.
As of today J.Crew was running a 60% off swim special so I couldn’t resist browsing and pulling a few sun protection options.
Catherine and Margaret have these precious suits from Minnow Swim in a blue and white stripe they no longer have. Since they’re about to grow out of them, I’m eyeing their next print and I’m sure if I let Margaret pick for her and her sister she’ll pick the hearts! Although the rainbow stripe could be a contender! Either way, they’ll look darling and be protected!
